Reggie’s postpones ATC hearing, will remain closed

BATON ROUGE — Reggie’s in Tigerland will remain closed after they postponed an emergency hearing with Louisiana’s Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control over their liquor license, Unfiltered with Kiran has learned.

Reggie’s tells UWK that they requested the postponement to allow “all parties involved additional time to complete their investigations and to allow sufficient time for a thorough review of all of the relevant evidence and issues involved.”

The bar had its state alcohol permit suspended on January 24 following the death of LSU student Madison Brooks. Brooks, a 19-year-old sophomore at LSU, was seen drinking at Reggie’s before she was raped and fatally struck by a car on January 15.

Reggie’s has been cooperating with East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, Baton Rouge Police, ATC, ABC and LSU officials, an attorney for the bar says.

“The owners of Reggie’s look forward to the opportunity to respond to the issues raised by ATC and to address those concerns in the near future,” an attorney for the bar told UWK. “(We) have full faith in the process and that they will be treated fairly and appropriately after all of the facts, evidence and available information are presented and considered.”

Madison Brooks Case

Four people have been arrested and charged with raping Brooks. Kaivon Washington, 18, and a 17-year-old were charged with third-degree rape.

Casen Carver, 18, and Everette Lee, 28, were charged with principal to third-degree rape.

Surveillance video shows Brooks was highly intoxicated at Reggie’s the night she was killed, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputies said of the incident.

Deputies said Brooks had a blood-alcohol level of .319, nearly four times the legal limit. Her BAC was high enough to give her alcohol poisoning, arrest documents showed.

Investigators say Brooks was too intoxicated to give consent, which is why rape charges were filed in the case. They say the suspects charged in her case dropped her off in a neighborhood off Burbank Dr. after the sexual assault. Brooks was later hit by a car and killed shortly before 3 a.m. January 15.

New allegations

Washington is now accused of another rape that also centers around Reggie’s bar.

The 18-year-old is facing the additional charges after a woman, whose name and age have not been released, called Baton Rouge Police in January to report an alleged incident from August 2022.

According to court records, the woman says she was at Reggie’s for a birthday party when she had multiple alcoholic drinks and ran into some friends in a parking lot. She says that Washington was among that group in the parking lot.

The victims says she told friends she was too drunk to drive home. She reportedly went home with a friend named Karson Jones, 18. It was at his house that she claims she was raped by Jones and Washington.
