Resident dies in early morning fire

The Baton Rouge Fire Department is investigating what started an apartment fire that claimed someone’s life early Wednesday, June 22, 2022.

Firefighters responded to the call at 1653 South Brightside View at 4:02 a.m. of someone claiming there was smoke in the apartment. When firefighters arrived, they found the fire had already been put out.

They entered the apartment next door and found the victim dead on the couch among heavy smoke. Baton Rouge Police, the state fire marshal, and EMS were also on the scene.

The victim hasn’t been identified as of this report.
