WEST BATON ROUGE — Just weeks after UWK’s report about Tim Amond’s desperate need for a kidney donor, a living donor has come forward — and he is now preparing for transplant surgery.
The news comes as a wave of relief and hope for Tim and his wife, Shanna Amond, who had been praying and searching tirelessly for nearly two years.
The retired West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputy, who served his community for 35 years, has been battling kidney failure brought on by diabetes. He has endured in-clinic dialysis three times a week since March 2023 — a process that has severely impacted his quality of life.
The donor was moved after reading the UWK’s story in February 2025 and began the evaluation process through Ochsner’s Living Donor Program. Tim has since been matched, and doctors are preparing him for transplant surgery.

WEST BATON ROUGE — For nearly two years, Tim Amond has battled the grueling effects of kidney failure, enduring dialysis treatments three times a week. A retired deputy of the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, Tim has dedicated 35 years to serving his community, but now he finds himself in need of help. His wife, Shanna Amond, is on a desperate search for a living kidney donor to save his life.
Tim’s kidney failure stems from complications of diabetes, a disease that has already led to an amputation and left him blind in one eye. Though he has been on the transplant list for a year and a half, the wait for a kidney is long, and dialysis is taking a toll on his health.
A Difficult Plea for Help
Shanna recently took to social media, making an emotional plea for a living donor.
“That was something very difficult for me to even attempt to post,” she admitted. “I had to sit here and think about it and pray on it. I was like, you know, he’s been struggling lately with the dialysis. It’s getting the best of him. Then he also ended up having a bout of vertigo, which has really taken a toll on him. With his balance already affected and blindness in one eye, it’s just been so hard.”
Shanna’s post has been shared more than 500 times, with several people reaching out to inquire about becoming potential donors. One of the most touching offers came from Tim’s 88-year-old aunt, who told Shanna she wanted to donate her kidney, despite her own declining health.
“Bless her heart, she’s 88 years old,” Shanna said. “She told me, ‘I want him to have my good kidney.’ It’s his mom’s sister.”
A Community Rallies Together
Despite the overwhelming challenges, Shanna remains hopeful. “I’ve had four people reach out and say they’ve filled out the survey to see if they would be eligible,” she said. “I’m just pulling at straws, but I have to try something for him.”
Tim’s diabetes has been somewhat stable since starting dialysis, but without a transplant, he will be dependent on the grueling treatments indefinitely.
Shanna’s heartfelt Facebook post reads:
“Hello everyone… I know it’s a lot to ask but here goes!!! Tim recently retired from the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office after 35 years of service as a Deputy. He loved hunting before his illness got the best of him. He is on the list for a kidney transplant and has been on in-clinic dialysis 3 times a week for 2 years this March 2025. He is O+, and we are asking for a Living Donor. I know it’s a LOT to ask, but I am also asking for someone to give him a chance at living a longer, healthier life with our beautiful family. This is the hardest thing I have ever done—asking for someone’s kindness for this. I know most everyone has their own family. We are also praying that by the grace of God, there is someone out there willing to be tested and do this!!! Neither of my children can be tested, and I have CKD as well. I hope and pray Timmy finds a doner soon. I’ve known Shanna since she was a baby and Timmy from the time he worked at PCSO, before going to WBRSO. They are such good people. Maybe this article will be what they need to find a match. Thank you UWK for getting this out to everyone.
