Baton Rouge fire officials say a portion of Bluebonnet near the St. George area reopened Wednesday after an 18-wheeler suffered a diesel fuel leak, which forced the road to close for a few hours.
Officials say an 18-wheeler dropped its drive shaft. It bounced up and hit the fuel tank and ruptured the tank. The incident happened at around 9 a.m.
Baton Rouge Fire hazmat stopped the leak, but diesel spilled into the road before it was stopped.
Diesel fuel is very slippery when on a surface, and the road had to be closed for safety precaution. Officials say the city-parish brought out a sand truck and put the sand on the road to mitigate the issue.
Baton Rouge Fire Department Hazmat and St. George Fire responded to the incident.
