Due to the widespread power outages across Ascension & Assumption Parishes from Hurricane Francine, Public Schools will remain closed on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024.
All state offices will close statewide Wednesday, Sept. 11 & Thursday, Sept. 12. This office closure applies to all non-essential employees including those authorized to work from home. Employees in areas under an evacuation order should seek further guidance from their supervisors.
Ascension Parish
- Schools will be closed on Friday, Sept. 13.
Currently, 17 of 32 Ascension Parish public schools are without power, and this morning 38,000 (79%) of Ascension households did not have power.
“We will use this time to fully assess and address any issues in our buildings so that we can reopen safely on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024. Even if power returns today, we will use this time with appropriate employees to make sure technology and all systems are fully operational and safe for students and staff to return,” said APSO in a news release.
Please note, that extracurricular events will be determined at the school level and will be communicated directly by each principal.
- Ascension Christian Schools will remain closed on Friday due to power outages. The 6 p.m. Saturday football game is still planned, but further updates will be provided.
Assumption Parish
- All Assumption Parish School Board offices and schools will remain closed until Monday, Sept. 16.
East Baton Rouge
- The EBR School System and all administrative sites will reopen Friday, Sept. 13. However, we are still monitoring the following sites due to lingering power outages: Glasgow Middle and Westdale Middle. Information on those facilities will be available by no later than 6 p.m. Thursday
- Baker Schools will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 11 and Thursday, Sept. 12.
- Central Schools will reopen Friday, Sept. 13.
- Zachary Schools will reopen for regular school day on Friday, Sept. 13. All ZCSD schools and offices will be open as well as Extended Day and after-school activities.

East Feliciana
- All public schools and offices will reopen Friday, Sept. 13. Students should bring their completed Wednesday and Thursday distance learning assignments with them on Friday.
Iberville
- Schools and offices will reopen Friday, Sept. 13.
Livingston
After assessing all 46 campuses to identify and address any issues, classes at all sites will resume on Friday, September 13th.
All sites will resume classes tomorrow. After power was restored to all schools, LPPS classes will resume tomorrow for all students. I would like to thank everyone who worked tirelessly to ensure our campuses are ready for students to return. We appreciate the tireless efforts of the utility companies, LPPS employees, Parish agencies, and all others who hit the ground running this morning to make this happen.
Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused; however, assessing and remediating damages, as well as restoring power on 46 sites is a massive undertaking and requires extensive time and effort.
We look forward to welcoming all students back tomorrow.

Pointe Coupee
- All public Schools and the District Office will be open Friday, Sept. 13
St. Helena
- Schools will dismiss early Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 2:30 p.m.; schools will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11; Thursday, Sept. 12 will be a virtual learning day
Tangipahoa
- Schools will reopen Friday, Sept. 13.
- St. Joseph Catholic School in Ponchatoula will be open Friday, Sept. 13.
- Holy Ghost Catholic School in Hammond will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
West Baton Rouge
- All West Baton Rouge Parish schools will re-open Friday, Sept. 13, with classes resuming the normal schedules.
West Feliciana
- Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11 and Thursday, Sept. 12.
- Wednesday will be a virtual learning day, so schools will send assignments home with students.
- If students experience power outages and are unable to complete the assignments, they will be excused and allowed to make up any missed work.
Local Universities
- LSU Baton Rouge: LSU will reopen on Friday, Sept. 13, for normal operations. All classes and activities will resume on Friday and all university offices will be open. This includes the Law Center, the Vet School, LSU Online, the University Laboratory School and the LSU Early Childhood Education Laboratory Preschool.
- Southern University: Campuses will close at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10; normal operations are expected to resume on Thursday, Sept. 12 at noon.
- Southeastern Louisiana University: Remote/online classes at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10; All activities on campuses and at all satellite locations will be canceled. University will close Sept. 11 and are expected to resume at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.
- River Parishes Community College: All campuses will close at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 and remain closed through Thursday, Sept. 12.
- Baton Rouge Community College: BRCC will transition to remote work and virtual classes starting at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 10; All BRCC campuses will be closed, and all classes, events, and activities will be canceled on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.
