The Eunice-born artist has snagged his fifth Grammy nomination, this time for his album 25: Back to My Roots, competing in the Best Regional Roots Music Album category at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on February 2, 2025.
This Zydeco star has come a long way from his roots while staying true to them—literally. Released on Zydekool Records, Ardoin’s latest album celebrates 25 years of his solo career and returns to full-on Zydeco, with a modern twist. “This album is about celebrating Louisiana and giving people here and beyond something they can connect to,” Ardoin shared.
A Musical Journey With Roots in History
Sean Ardoin is no stranger to accolades. With 27 albums and four previous Grammy nods, including collaborations with the LSU Tiger Band and groundbreaking projects like Kreole Rock and Soul, Ardoin has solidified his place as a genre pioneer. His style bridges Zydeco traditions with rock, soul, and R&B—a unique blend Ardoin aptly calls Kreole Rock and Soul.
“I created Kreole Rock and Soul to break free from the confines of traditional Zydeco,” Ardoin explained. “When my first album in this genre got two Grammy nominations, I knew I was on the right path. And here I am with number five!”
Ardoin’s rich musical heritage traces back to Creole music legends, including his ancestor Amédé Ardoin, dubbed the Father of Creole and Cajun music. Through his family line, Sean continues a legacy that has shaped Louisiana’s cultural identity for over a century.
Coffee Meets Culture
Ardoin’s artistry isn’t limited to music. Recently, he launched the Kreole Rock and Soul Coffee Company, offering blends like the Zydeco Blend (a smooth mix of medium and dark roasts) and Mocha Vignette. “Coffee and music are both about connection,” he said. “I wanted to create something that brings people together, just like my music.”

Adding another feather to his cap, Ardoin hosted Amplify Louisiana, a travel documentary showcasing Louisiana’s vibrant culture and stunning landscapes. The film recently won at the 2024 Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards, a testament to Ardoin’s ability to represent his home state with passion and pride.
