“The accused further advised he discharged his weapon due to a large shoot-out occurring
with other unknown individuals at this event,” said arresting documents.

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies arrested Kennon Hollman Friday and charged him with principal to first-degree murder and illegal use of weapons.

Officials say a witness at the shooting saw two people firing guns into the crowd. The witness saw the suspects leave the area in a silver Dodge truck hauling a trailer loaded with ATVs.

Arrest documents say detectives received a photo of the truck and its license plate. The documents say the vehicle was registered to Hollman.

Hollman was placed in a lineup and arrest documents say law enforcement presented the photo lineup to the witness in a “blind array.” After reviewing the lineup, the witness identified Hollman as the driver ooof the vehicle and the person he observed firing a gun into the crowd.

The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2nd in the 200 block of W. Port Hudson Plains Rd. That’s off of Hwy. 61 in the northern part of East Baton Rouge Parish.

Over 1,000 people were in attendance at an ATV Trail Ride and concert when the shooting happened. Over 20 rounds were fired. Multiple people were injured and one person died.

Two people were injured from gunfire while many others were injured after they were tramped over trying to clear the area after the shooting. It appears at least six people were transported to area hospitals, while many others declined being transported over their injuries.

While responding to the scene, officials did find one person unresponsive, who died from his injuries in the shooting. He has been identified as La’Taurus Smith, 16, of Zachary.
