GONZALES — It’s now been a few weeks, but a heartfelt search continues after a local woman discovered a lost piece of jewelry with an engraved name in the parking lot of Mike Anderson’s restaurant. She’s hoping to reunite it with its rightful owner.
Cheryl Lanoux says she was leaving the Gonzales restaurant around Noon on February 28 when she saw an older couple desperately looking for an item near their truck in the handicapped parking spot. She says that they were trying to find a piece of unique jewelry that had fallen out of the man’s pocket while he was pulling out his keys.
The three of them began searching around the vehicle for the men’s ring.
“I looked up and said, ‘Come on St. Anthony, we need your help!'” Lanoux recalled.
Unfortunately, they were unable to find it. The couple left, and Lanoux said the man seemed understandably upset about losing the sentimental piece.
The situation weighed on her, so the next morning, Lanoux returned to the parking lot to search again.
“I walked around looking and looking, and low and behold, I found it,” she said. “When I found it, I just looked up at the sky and told God, ‘Thank you so much!'”
It was in a crack of the pavement.
Lanoux then went inside the hotel portion of the property, as the restaurant was still closed, hoping to find the couple’s contact information. However, the staff was unable to locate any details and suggested placing the item in the lost and found.
Concerned that the unique men’s ring might be misplaced again, Lanoux decided to keep it and continued visiting the restaurant over the weekend, hoping to spot the couple’s truck.
Lanoux updated UWK on March 10th that the restaurant has recently been in contact with her, and the outside cameras were not working at the time the ring was lost. So no image of the couple is available at this time.
Now, she’s trying to alert the couple that their lost item is safe. She’s already shared a post on Facebook but is still searching for them, even after sitting in the parking lot recently with a sign for the man.
Lanoux believes the couple is likely local. Even if they don’t use social media, she figures their family members might be aware of the missing item. In the hopes of ensuring the ring gets back to its rightful owner, she is asking UWK not to release many details on the piece of jewelry.
However, Lanoux did say that the ring is engraved with the name “ALBERT.” A Gonzales jewelry store (Layne’s Jewelry) reached out to her and checked its records, but the ring did not come from its store.
