Shell casings found on I-10 in Gonzales

The Gonzales Police Dept. & Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office are investigating a shooting that took place on Interstate 10 around 9:50pm on Tuesday.

It happened on I-10 westbound at mile marker 177 on May 24, 2022. The details on the actual shooting on the interstate are still unclear, however officials confirm that Gonzales PD did find a handful of shell casings on the interstate.

“This appears to be a random shooting where shots were fired in the air without an intended target,” said Gonzales Police Chief Sherman Jackson.

One of the stray bullets from the shooting did hit a home on S. Darla St. in Ascension Parish. The bullet came through the roof, through the ceiling into the home. There were no injuries from that bullet. APSO is working that part of the investigation.

“I think that fire arms are falling into the hands of irresponsible people. We as a people need to figure out a real solution for this problem. I want the people of Gonzales to know that our police department will try our best to fight this type of crime, by bringing these people to our justice system,” said Chief Jackson.

Officials have no suspect(s) as of now and are asking for the public’s help. If you saw anything or can help, please call the Gonzales PD or APSO.

The story will be updated as more becomes available.
