Sheriff: Women steal 65 guns, caught by Angola chase team after police pursuit

POINTE COUPEE PARISH — Two women are now behind bars, facing numerous charges after they allegedly stole 65 guns from a store in Eunice, leading to a dramatic high-speed chase and foot pursuit through the woods.

The chase started around 7 a.m. on Saturday in West Baton Rouge Parish when deputies received an alert about a possible stolen 2021 Honda Pilot from Lafayette. Spotting the vehicle on Hwy. 190, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the female driver refused to pull over.

During the pursuit, a firearm was reportedly tossed from the vehicle. Subsequently, the weapon was recovered and confirmed to have been stolen from the Lafayette area. The high-speed chase was terminated by WBRSO as it entered Pointe Coupee Parish.

A PCPSO deputy took over the pursuit, but unfortunately lost track of the car. Investigators informed UWK that the vehicle was later found abandoned behind a fire station on Hwy. 416. The women inside the car then fled into the nearby woods.

The Angola chase team was called in, and eventually, the two women were located and apprehended. They were identified as 21-year-old Kendricka Griffin of Opelousas and 20-year-old Janiaya Lafleur of Eunice.

According to UWK sources, both suspects are facing a range of charges, including aggravated flight from an officer, illegal possession of stolen firearms, illegal possession of a stolen vehicle, and obstruction of justice.
