BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge Police officers have arrested a 23-year-old woman in connection to a shooting that took place in a parking garage in downtown Baton Rouge.
Latoria Matthews, 23, was arrested for attempted second degree murder and illegal use of a weapon, after allegedly fleeing to Houston, TX.
It was just before 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2024, in Baton Rouge when there was a shooting in the LaSalle Parking Garage. Baton Rouge Police officers were patrolling the downtown area when they heard shots fired in the LaSalle Parking Garage.
When officers got into the garage, they found a 24-year-old man who had been shot multiple times but was still responsive. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
BRPD officers now say Matthews met the male victim on Instagram, picked him up to have sex with and went to the LaSalle parking garage. As the two prepared to have sex, Matthews allegedly shot him multiple times.
Police say the man was able to escape from the vehicle and get help.
Matthews allegedly fled to Texas after the downtown garage shooting and was arrested in Houston. She has since been extradited back to Baton Rouge and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
