SATSUMA — The Livingston Parish Airport District broke ground on the new Livingston Executive Airport on Thursday, Oct. 3. This marks the first new airfield to be built in Louisiana in nearly 40 years, a project that has sparked significant debate.
The airport will be constructed in phases, according to Delia Taylor, chairwoman of the Livingston Parish Airport District. The initial phase, already underway, has included land clearing, studies, and drainage work, among other preliminary steps.
The first phase will also feature the construction of a 4,200-foot runway with a small apron and connecting taxiway, with work expected to begin in early 2025.
According to a press release, the final design will include a 5,000-foot runway, a larger apron, and a full parallel taxiway.
