Tropical Storm Edouard has officially formed as of the 7:00 pm advisory. The newly formed tropical storm carries with it 40 mph maximum sustained winds & a central pressure of 1010 mb. The storm is currently located approximately 50 miles south of Morgan City & is moving at 6 mph WNW. It is expected to strengthen before an eventual landfall somewhere in the SW Louisiana/SE Texas region.
Impacts for the Baton Rouge area are expected to be reduced with the occasional tropical rainband coming across our area. This marks the 5th named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season & the 3rd to impact the northern gulf coast. Despite the activity for our region, this hurricane season is considered to be less active than usual due to a strong El Nino in the Pacific, making storm development less favorable in the Atlantic Basin. We have yet to see a hurricane in the Atlantic this season.
