Shreveport officer charged with negligent homicide after unarmed black man shot and killed

The Shreveport Police officer involved in a shooting earlier this month that resulted in the death of Alonzo Bagley, has been arrested and charged with negligent homicide, according to state police.

Officials say detectives with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations reviewed body camera footage from the Feb. 3 incident and arrested officer Alexander Tyler.

Tyler was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center.

State police say the preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 10:51 p.m. on Feb. 3, two Shreveport Police Department officers responded to the Villa Norte Apartment Complex.

The call for service was about a domestic disturbance. Once officers arrived inside the apartment, Bagley exited the apartment on the balcony and jumped to the ground and then he ran.

Officials say following a short foot pursuit, Tyler located Bagley and fired one shot, which hit Bagley in the chest. Bagley was transported to Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport for treatment but was later pronounced dead.
