SO FAR IN 2021, NEARLY 250 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SHOT OR KILLED IN BATON ROUGE

They’re statistics that may come as a surprise to some, but to others, the increasing crime in Baton Rouge is no longer shocking.

According to the latest figures from sources, to date this year, Baton Rouge Police have investigated 65 homicides. A homicide is the killing of a human being by another, although a small number of those may be classified as negligent or justifiable. Compared to years past however, 2021 has already set a record for the highest number of homicides going back to 2012.

In all of 2018, there were 48 homicides within the Baton Rouge city limits. At the halfway point of 2021, this year has already passed that number.

Add to that all the non-fatal shootings so far this year, 151.

In all of those shootings, 184 total people were hit by a bullet and survived. That brings the total number of people who have been shot or killed so far this year in the city limits of Baton Rouge to 249.
