Southeastern University opens HIPS Museum to document the Nuremberg Trials

HAMMOND — Thanks to a very large donation from a dear friend, Southeastern University in Hammond, La has just opened a HIPS Museum.

HIPS stands for Department of History and Political Science.

“It really came together based on a donation from a friend of mine, Al Freider,” Dr. Samantha Cavell told UWK. Cavell is the military history professor at SLU in Hammond. “He was looking for a more permanent home for his collection, which has come together over the course of 40 years.”

In fact, he had such a vast collection that they decided to create a museum not only to give his collection a home, but also to educate everyone.

“We started doing construction through the spring semester. We put in lighting. We had to build some walls, and then over the summer, three grad students helped me pull together the exhibit that you see today. This exhibit is commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Nuremberg trials,” Dr. Cavell added. (See full exhibit and learn more in YT link above.)
