Southern University released a statement Wednesday morning reacting to the shooting death of a student in New Orleans the day after Christmas.
Investigators say Courtney Hughes, a freshman at Southern who is from New Orleans, was one of the six people killed at a holiday party in the early morning hours.

New Orleans Police is investigating the incident that occurred in the 2000 block of St. Maurice Street. Officials say when authorities resopnded to the call, they located four victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Southern University extends condolences to the family and loved ones of Courtney Hughes, a freshman from New Orleans who was majoring in nursing. She was fatally shot on Monday morning. Our thoughts are also with others affected by this tragic incident.
