Southern University to honor Brusly High graduate killed in crash

BATON ROUGE — Southern University Residential Life & Housing is honoring the Brusly High graduate and teen killed in an early morning crash Monday in Iberville Parish. She was currently enrolled as a student at Southern University.

The student was identified as Khai Alexia Walker, 18. The teen graduated from Brusly High in 2023. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Circle on Southern’s campus.

The crash happened just after 2 a.m. on April 1 when Louisiana State Police Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on LA 1 near the intersection of Texas Road south of White Castle.

Walker died in the crash and her passenger was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Her passenger, also a Brusly High graduate, remains in the hospital undergoing additional surgeries.

The investigation so far reveals Walker was driving an Acura TL north on LA 1 near the intersection of Texas Road. At the same time, a Ford tow truck was driving the opposite direction on LA 1. For reasons still under investigation, the Acura and the tow truck crashed head-on.

After the initial impact, there was a secondary impact between the vehicles, according to State Police. Walker’s passenger sustained serious injuries. She was transported to the hospital in Iberville Parish.

Brusly High School shared a post on social media Monday afternoon honoring Walker.
