ADDIS, La. — It was around noon on Tuesday, January 16, when West Baton Rouge firefighters responded to a fully engulfed fire in Addis on Main Street.

WBR Fire Chief Butch Browning tells UWK that firefighters arrived to a large fire in Addis at the older home with heavy wood frame. That frame is what made it difficult to battle the blaze.

“It was a very difficult fire to put out because of the wood structure. Firefighters couldn’t enter the home and they had to a defensive attack, meaning an exterior attack,” said Chief Browning. “We had to call in additional help from the parish to fight the fire.”

The home was occupied but no one was home at the time. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Chief Browning said it took multiple firefighters 45 minutes to an hour to get the fire under control but a few hours to continue fighting all the hotspots.

“While we were fighting the fire, a power line that went to the meter of the house was damaged by the fire,” said Chief Browning. Thankfully, no other homes sustained major damage from the fire.
