SPRINGFIELD — A 57-year-old man was killed Sunday afternoon in a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV in Livingston Parish.
Louisiana State Police say the crash happened just before 2 p.m. on LA 43 near Haynes Settlement Road. Troopers identified the victim as Earl Duncan of Springfield.
According to investigators, Duncan was riding a 1999 Honda motorcycle north on LA 43 when a 2024 Cadillac XT6 traveling in the same direction tried to pass him in a legal passing zone. Troopers say Duncan turned left into the path of the Cadillac, leading to the collision.
Duncan suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say he was wearing a DOT-approved helmet.
The driver of the Cadillac was properly restrained and was not hurt. State Police say impairment is not suspected, but toxicology samples were collected as part of the routine investigation.
This crash remains under investigation.
