apartment arson arrest

St. Francisville man arrested, accused of using book to start an apartment fire

ST. FRANCSIVILLE — The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal (SFM) arrested one person after he’s accused of starting a fire at an apartment.

On Sept. 24, around 11 a.m., the St. Francisville Fire Department responded to an apartment fire in the 11000 block of Ferdinand Street in St. Francisville. After the fire was put out, the fire department requested assistance from the SFM in investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

After an investigation, SFM investigators determined that a tenant, identified as Jeff David Wyatte McAlpin of St. Francisville, allegedly placed books inside of an oven, which started the fire.

SFM investigators arrested McAlpin, 42, on Sept. 25, and charged him with aggravated arson. He was booked into the West Feliciana Parish Detention Center with a $40,000 bond, records show.

This remains an active investigation, and no other details are being released at this time.

The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office reminds the public that anyone with information regarding fire-related crimes is encouraged to submit an anonymous tip by visiting lasfm.org and selecting the “Arson Fires” icon.
