ST. FRANCISVILLE —- An 83-year-old man from West Feliciana Parish died in a crash Tuesday morning, according to State Police.
It was just after 9:00 a.m. on August 13, 2024, when State Police Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on US 61, at the intersection of Rosemound Loop Road.
Vernon Johnson Sr., 83, of St. Francisville, died in the crash.
The investigation so far reveals that a 2019 Ford F-350 pickup truck was headed south on US 61. At the same time, Johnson was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla east on Rosemound Loop Road, approaching the intersection of US 61.
As the Toyota approached the intersection, Troopers say Johnson allegedly failed to yield at the stop sign before attempting to cross the southbound lanes of US 61 and entered the path of the Ford. The front of the Ford hit the driver’s side of the Toyota.
Johnson was properly buckled but suffered serious injuries. He was transported to a hospital but died from his injuries.
The driver of the Ford was also properly restrained and was uninjured. While impairment is not suspected, standard toxicology samples will be taken and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
