St. Francisville teen killed in Pointe Coupee Parish crash

POINTE COUPEE — It was just before 5:30 a.m. on July 5, when Louisiana State Police troopers responded to a deadly crash that claimed the life of a teenager.

Rayshon M. Franklin Jr., 17, of St. Francisville, died in the wreck, according to troopers.

Officials say they responded to a single-vehicle crash on Hwy. 78 west of La 1 in Pointe Coupee Parish.

The preliminary investigation reveals that Franklin was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry east on Hwy. 78 west of La 1. It’s still unclear why but troopers say Franklin went off the roadway to the right into a ditch, flipped and then hit a tree.

Troopers say Franklin was properly buckled at the time of the crash, but unfortunately died on the scene. At this time, troopers say impairment is not suspected but standard toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis.
