Two arrested in connection to 28-yr-old found dead and burned in the trunk of vehicle in St. Gabriel

ST. GABRIEL — The St. Gabriel Police Dept. has arrested two people in connection to a Prairieville man’s body found in the trunk of a burnt vehicle.

Carlos Fernel Burgos , 58, of Baton Rouge, and Nahun Contreras, 28, of Livingston, were arrested on March 20 & March 21. Both have been booked into the Iberville Parish Jail on charges of second degree murder, arson, and obstruction.

The man discovered dead and burned in the trunk of a vehicle in St. Gabriel was identified as Jarrous Mitchell, a 28-year-old resident of Prairieville.

On February 29, firefighters responded to a vehicle fire at 4445 Point Clair Rd. in St. Gabriel. The East Iberville Parish Fire Department attended the scene and successfully extinguished the fire. During the firefighting efforts, Mitchell’s body was discovered in the trunk of the vehicle.

Despite the arrest, police have not identified the motive.

“With this arrest, the investigation into the murder of Mitchell is not closed. Detectives are actively investigating and will continue until every person who had a hand in the killing of Mitchell is brought to justice,” said St. Gabriel Police.
