St. Gabriel Police Chief under investigation for possible missing evidence

The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office & FBI are running a parallel investigation into the St. Gabriel Police Dept. & its chief, Kevin Ambeau.

The investigation involves possible missing evidence & money from a double homicide in Dec. 2019, according to the Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi.

On Dec. 28, 2019, Aleysia Maynor, 26, and Dararius Evans, 28, were both shot and killed on LSU Ag Rd. off Hwy. 30 in St. Gabriel. In Jan. 2020, St. Gabriel PD solved the case with an arrest. Jaylon Brown, 21, was arrested and accused of both murders.

However, when the district attorney’s office started piecing the case together to move forward with prosecution, they learned some evidence & money were missing from the St. Gabriel Police Dept.’s evidence room., according to Stassi

It’s why both IPSO & the feds have now been called in to investigate Chief Ambeau and his department as to why and how the evidence went missing in a crucial double homicide investigation.

“It’s never a good thing when we have to investigate one of our own law enforcement agencies. It’s not one of my proudest moments,” said Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi. “These victims’ families deserve justice and we will do our part to ensure they get it.”

Unfiltered with Kiran did reach out to Chief Ambeau for comment on the story, but he has not returned the call or text as of this report.
