St. Gabriel: Shooting involving a teenager and stolen gun under investigation

ST. GABRIEL —- The St. Gabriel Police Dept. is investigating a shooting that took place Tuesday night just before 9 p.m. that allegedly may have involved a stolen gun.

On May 21, 2024, officers with the St. Gabriel Police Department responded to the 1800 block of Bayou Paul Lane in Iberville Parish for a 17-year-old young man shot with a self-inflicted wound.

Officials say the man allegedly “mishandled a loaded weapon” and shot himself. He was transported by Acadian Ambulance Air-Med to a local hospital, and he is currently in critical condition.

After a search of the property, St. Gabriel Police officers say they found a loaded weapon that had
been reported stolen days earlier out of St. Gabriel.

Once the teenager is discharged from the hospital, he is expected to be charged with a stolen weapon and illegal discharge of a weapon.

This incident is currently under investigation by the St. Gabriel Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP.
