AMITE — The St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting that happened Monday evening.
It was just before 8 p.m. on Feb. 10th when deputies responded to a possible shooting at 835 Sawmill Rd. That’s off of Leonard Chapel Rd., which is off of Hwy. 16. Though the address is an Amite address and it’s right on the Tangipahoa/St. Helena line, it’s technically within St. Helena Parish.
Upon arrival, deputies found Ry’Shai A. Hills, 22, dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
After an investigation, deputies arrested Darile Quinell Doughty, 22, for second-degree murder.
No further details have been released at this time including what led up to the shooting. Anyone with information on the St. Helena shooting is asked to call the sheriff’s office.
This deadly shooting took place on the same road where a triple homicide happened on Jan. 9, 2025 in St. Helena Parish.
They were identified as Rhonda Powell, 40, her son Braylon, 10, and her nephew Hayden, 1.
Ryant Jones, 31, was arrested and charged with the murders.
