MANDEVILLE — The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office (STPSO) is continuing to investigate an early Monday morning domestic incident that left one person dead and another injured with apparent stab wounds.
In an update, STPSO officials say the incident happened before 3 a.m. on Dec. 15 on East Richland Drive in the Greenleaves Subdivision near Mandeville. Deputies were called to the scene in reference to gunshots. When they arrived, deputies found a man dead in a yard along with a woman suffering from apparent stab wounds.
According to officials, the woman had exited through a home’s window to get help from neighbors because her boyfriend was attacking her inside the home. The boyfriend was allegedly attacking the girlfriend with a knife when a neighbor came outside and demanded he stop.
When the boyfriend refused and continued to attack his girlfriend, the neighbor fired his gun, hitting the man, officials say. The boyfriend was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The woman was transported to a local hospital. Her wounds are non-life-threatening.
“Based on the information we have at this time, the neighbor’s actions appear to have prevented further serious injury or loss of life. Our detectives will continue to thoroughly investigate to ensure all facts are reviewed,” Sheriff Randy Smith said.
The investigation is ongoing, and at this time, no charges have been filed.
St. Tammany deputies have not released any further details including the names of those involved.
