Shelters open after “multiple tornadoes” in Slidell and St. Tammany Parish

ST. TAMMANY — At least one tornado touched down in Slidell and St. Tammany Parish Government officials say the eastern part of the parish was “ravaged by multiple tornadoes/wind storms.”

“The damage is widespread and catastrophic. While some communities were hit harder than others, the impact stretches across the entire region. The weather is gone, but this is going to be a multiple day event. It will take a few days to fully restore power. It will take several weeks and perhaps months to restore normalcy for all. All crews will be working swiftly to get our community back open. This storm ripped our neighbors lives apart in a matter of seconds. We will come back stronger, just as we have done time and time before. St. Tammany Strong!”

Three shelters are now open: John Slidell Park in Slidell, Creekside Junior High in Pearl River and the Recreation Center in Lacombe.

Anyone needing shelter is welcome to go by.

Parish officials say so far, they have provided 200 tarps and other supplies to the City of Slidell.
