Three separate crashes in a matter of hours have claimed the lives of four people. Two of the accidents were in Livingston Parish and another was in West Baton Rouge.

Livingston double fatal crash

Shortly before midnight on June 28, 2024, Louisiana State Police Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 16 at Bailey Lane in Livingston Parish.

Kenneth M. Broussard II, 28, of Prairieville and Abigail Wheat, 22, of Denham Springs, died in the crash.

The preliminary investigation reveals that a 2007 Infiniti M35 was heading south on Hwy. 16 near Bailey Lane. At the same time, Broussard was driving a 2005 Dodge Neon north on LA 16. For reasons still under investigation, the Infiniti crossed the centerline and hit the Dodge head-on.

Broussard was buckled properly but died on the scene. Wheat, who was the front passenger in the Infiniti, was not buckled at the time of the crash. She died on the scene from her injuries. The driver of the Infiniti was not buckled either and had serious injuries. The driver was transported to a local hospital. Impairment on the part of both drivers is unknown at this time, however, standard toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis.

Joseph Dodds, 23, of Livingston, was killed in the crash.

Troopers say Dodds was driving a 2022 Toyota Corolla south on Hwy. 63 near Hwy. 444. For reasons still under investigation, Dodds exited the roadway and hit a tree.

Dodds was not buckled and died at the scene. Impairment is unknown at this time, however, standard toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis.

West Baton Rouge crash

Around the same time as the deadly crash in Livingston Parish, troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 415 near Commercial Drive in West Baton Rouge Parish.

Jada Bergeron, 20, of Mamou, died in the crash.

Troopers say a 2015 Kia Rio, driven by 37-year-old Carlos Thomas, was going north on Hwy. 415 near Commercial Drive. At the same time, a 2012 Nissan Altima was traveling south on Hwy. 415. For unknown reasons, troopers say the Kia turned left towards a private driveway, in front of the Nissan. As a result, the front of the Nissan hit the side of the Kia.

Bergeron, who was the front passenger in the Nissan, was not buckled at the time of the crash, and died at the scene. The driver of the Nissan was buckled & had minor injuries.

Thomas and the front passenger of the Kia were both properly buckled at the time of the crash. The passenger had moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
