Port Allen woman’s body found in WBR ditch after a hit and run

PORT ALLEN – The body of a 37-yr-old Port Allen woman was found in a ditch in West Baton Rouge Parish.

The body of Theresa Weems, 37, of Port Allen, was located on Lafiton Lane in Port Allen, situated between Hwy. 415 and La. 1, around 1 p.m. on March 12th.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Weems was walking eastbound in the westbound lane of LA 987-3, near the edge of the roadway. A vehicle driving in the westbound lane of LA 987-3 hit Weems and allegedly fled the scene. Weems died at the scene.

Troopers were able to determine that the vehicle that hit Weems was a 2015 Jeep Cherokee, driven by 30-year-old Austin Kelley of Port Allen at the time of the crash.

Troopers found Kelley and the Jeep at a nearby location. Kelley was arrested and booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail for felony hit and run involving death. This crash remains under investigation.
