State police investigating deputy-involved shooting in Ponchatoula

PONCHATOULA — State police are investigating a fatal shooting involving a deputy that occurred Monday evening in Ponchatoula.

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home in the 14000 block of Madison Lane. Officials say deputies encountered Warren Burton, 20, while attempting to serve a protective custody order.

During the encounter, officials say Burton had a gun and pointed it toward deputies. One deputy shot Burton and he died at the scene. No deputies were injured.
