State police investigating fatal crash in Tangipahoa Parish

Louisiana State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash Monday that killed a Hammond man in Tangipahoa Parish.

Officials say the crash happened shortly after 5:15 p.m. on U.S. Hwy 190 at South Baptist Road. The accident killed 45-year-old Eric Cook.

The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred when a Honda CRV, driven by Victoria Reid, 24, was eastbound on Hwy 190, approaching the intersection at South Baptist Road with a red light.

At the same time, a Toyota Corolla driven by Cook was northbound on South Baptist Road, approaching the intersection at Hwy 190 with a green light. For reasons still under investigation, the CRV traveled into the intersection while the light was still red and hit Cook’s vehicle.

Despite being properly restrained, Cook sustained severe injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

Reid was wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries. She was transported to a local hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
