GONZALES —- Louisiana State Police troopers were requested to take over an investigation into an officer-involved shooting.
It was around 10:45 p.m. on March 5 when the Gonzales Police Department requested State Police.
It all started when a Gonzales Police officer made a traffic stop near the intersection of South John Street and Orice Roth Road in Gonzales, State Police says. The officer then made contact with the driver, 21-year-old Anthony Talbert of Baton Rouge, and a female passenger.
At some point during the encounter, troopers say Talbert allegedly reached for a gun inside the vehicle. In response, the officer discharged his department-issued firearm one time, grazing both Talbert and the female passenger.
That’s when troopers say Talbert fled the scene, reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph and disregarding multiple traffic signs.
Talbert was arrested after a short pursuit. He is charged with aggravated flight, reckless operation, obstruction of justice, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
The female passenger was transported to a hospital for minor injuries.
