State Trooper charged with battery after fight at LSU football game

BATON ROUGE — A Louisiana State Police trooper was charged with battery Saturday following a fight at the LSU football game.

Artellus Bellard, 30, of Lake Charles, was involved in a physical altercation with two other men at Tiger Stadium, according to LSP Captain Nick Manale. Bellard, who was off-duty at the time, “initiated the physical battery after a verbal argument,” Manale stated.

Bellard, who has been assigned to Troop D since 2021, was charged with two counts of simple battery and released on a summons with a pending court date.

Manale added that no further information is available at this time, as the criminal and administrative investigations are ongoing.

The LSU Tigers hosted the UCLA Bruins at Tiger Stadium on Saturday, marking the team’s second home game of the 2024 season. No. 16 LSU defeated the Bruins 34-17.
