Several Louisiana parishes are reporting a widespread 911 outage, UWK has learned.
East Baton Rouge, St. Tammany, Rapides and West Baton Rouge parishes have confirmed problems. Sources inside local 911 operations told UWK that roughly 90% of the state is affected.
One source said that in some parishes, 911 circuits are down but calls are still being answered and routed to the correct lines. Another said landline calls are going through in certain areas, but cell phone calls remain unreliable.
Livingston Parish officials issued an alert around 2 p.m. Thursday saying the outage primarily affects agencies not yet on the Next Generation 911 system. They noted Livingston Parish’s own system remains operational except when transferring calls to other parishes.

Officials advise residents that if 911 is unavailable during an emergency, they should call their local sheriff’s office or police department directly.
