FRANKLINTON — Louisiana State Police troopers responded to a crash in Washington Parish that killed three people, including two children, and injured another three.
It happened on Sunday, Dec. 15, around 6:30 p.m. on Hwy. 25 in Franklinton.
The crash left three dead: 42-year-old Tequilla Santee, 11-year-old Daniya Carter, and 3-year-old Dylan Wilson of Covington.
According to officials, a preliminary investigation shows that Santee was driving a 2008 Chevy Tahoe south on Hwy 25. At the same time, a 2003 Chevy Silverado, driven by 18-year-old Logan Schmalz of Franklinton, was going the opposite direction, north on Hwy 25.
For reasons still under investigation, the Silverado crossed over the center line and hit the Tahoe head-on in the southbound lane of Hwy 25.
Despite being properly buckled, Santee died at the scene. The two kids in the Tahoe, Carter and Wilson, were not buckled and also died at the scene.
Two more passengers in the Tahoe were critically injured and transported to a local hospital, one of whom was properly restrained and the other was not.
The driver of the Silverado, Schmalz was wearing a seatbelt and transported to the hospital with critical injuries.
Routine toxicology samples were taken from both drivers for analysis. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
