Suspect arrested in April shooting while stopped at a traffic light

A suspect in a drive-by shooting from April 1, 2022 near Geismar, turned himself in a little over two months later.

Tyrus Joseph, 25, was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder after allegedly shooting two people, according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office. He turned himself in on Monday, June 6, 2022.

Deputies say the victims were stopped at a traffic light when a vehicle opened fire and left before officers arrived. The driver suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transferred to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

The passenger had minor injuries and was transferred to the hospital for treatment but both men made full recoveries. The shooting was on Highway 30 and Ashland Dr.

Joseph is also charged with assault by drive-by shooting, illegal use of weapons and aggravated criminal damage to property.
