Suspect fleeing from deputies dies in Central Thruway crash

On May 9, 2022, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Armed Robbery and Burglary Detectives spotted a vehicle that had been identified in multiple burglaries in EBR, as well as a neighboring parish.

Sources say the suspect, now identified as Dylan Breard, 26, may be connected to over a dozen burglaries between EBR & Ascension parishes.

The vehicle, whose driver law enforcement had not identified at time yet, allegedly left a business on O’neal Lane that had just been burglarized.

Detectives followed the vehicle and attempted to make contact with Breard after he stopped on Honeywell Ave., but Breard fled in the vehicle.

With lights and sirens activated, deputies followed the vehicle onto O’Neal Ln.

Around 4:30 am, Breard turned off the lights to his vehicle, possibly in an attempt to flee deputies on Central Thruway.

When he turned his lights back on, the driver realized he was off road. That’s when Breard overcorrected and crossed into the southbound lanes into the oncoming traffic.

Breard continued down the grass embankment and went underneath the bridge. Once under the bridge, the suspect’s vehicle went airborne and hit a concrete pillar. Officials said Breard died on scene.
