BATON ROUGE– Baton Rouge Police arrested a man accused of stealing a vehicle following a police chase Wednesday.

Officials say Derrick Perkins, 46, was arrested around 11:45 a.m. following his attempt to escape in a stolen Nissan Maxima.

Baton Rouge Police say Perkins crashed the car on the South I-110 Evangeline Street exit ramp.

Perkins was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, aggravated flight from an officer, and resisting an officer.

The car’s original owner saw the stolen car on Pocahontas Street at around 10:30 a.m. Sources say the owner called the police while driving behind the stolen vehicle to keep track of it.

Perkins was labeled as a person of interest in the death of Nathan Millard who went missing in Baton Rouge in February 2023 and was later found dead.
