PONCHATOULA — A 65-year-old woman from Hammond died Wednesday night after a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 22 near Edwards Road in Tangipahoa Parish. The woman has been identified as Peggy J. Williams.
Around 8:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, Louisiana State Police troopers responded to a head-on crash on Hwy 22.
Troopers say Williams was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer east on Hwy 22. At the same time, a 2011 Ford F-150 was headed west on Hwy 22. Troopers say Kody A. Lacour of Picayune, Mississippi, was driving the truck.
For reasons still under investigation, Williams crossed the centerline and hit the Ford truck head-on. The official cause of the crash in under investigation but troopers added the recent snow and ice on the roadways may have contributed to the crash.
Troopers added that Williams was not wearing a seatbelt and had critical injuries. She was transported to a local hospital, but died of her injuries there.
Lacour was also unbuckled, but suffered minor injuries and declined medical treatment.
In their investigation, troopers determined that Lacour was impaired at the time of the crash, according to officials.
He was arrested and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail for first offense DWI and obstruction of a court order.
The crash remains under investigation.
