INDEPENDENCE — The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crash Investigations team is asking the public for information about a crash in late September that killed one and has resulted in one arrest so far.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, just before 6 p.m., the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified about a crash in the 54000 block of N. Larussa Lane in Independence.
Upon their investigation, deputies determined that a 2003 Ford Expedition, driven by Antonino Reyes Carcamo, 45, of Independence, lost control while making a left turn and hit a tree, which caused the vehicle to flip over. Carcamo and five others were in the vehicle.
According to the sheriff’s office, five people were injured to varying degrees and one person, identified as Marisol Carcamo Vargas, 23, died at the scene.
After he was released from the hospital, Carcamo was arrested and charged with the following: vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, and reckless operation of a vehicle.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the Independence crash, and there are additional charges pending. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Major Crash Investigations Team at (985) 748-3333.
