AMITE — On Jan. 5, the U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force re-arrested a Tangipahoa Parish work release inmate, who had been on the run since late September. Christopher Delcambre, 51, is facing new charges after he was found in Mississippi.
Delcambre is now charged with aggravated escape after he walked off an assignment at the Florida Parishes Arena on Sept. 27, 2025. According to TPSO, he was originally in jail on charges related to a drug case, as well as felony theft.
Delcambre walked away from an assignment at the Florida Parishes Arena, where he was moving pallets, per TPSO. Delcambre was in a program that allows select Department of Corrections inmates to work jobs outside of the jail.
When he finished his job, officials say Delcambre was unaccounted for. He was last seen heading in a northeast direction toward the new baseball fields by the arena. According to officials, he has ties in the Abita Springs and Carriere, Mississippi, area.
Deputies partnered with area law enforcement partners, including the U.S. Marshals and the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division, to actively search for Delcambre locally and out of state. In the past week, officials received new information about Delcambre’s potential location in the Jackson, Mississippi, area.
He was eventually found in a homeless encampment and arrested Monday morning. He will be transported back to the Tangipahoa Parish Jail for booking before being transferred to another facility.
As a result of this incident, TPSO has re-evaluated its work-release program eligibility standards and revised the current participant list to reflect the new requirements. TPSO is also actively exploring additional security and tracking measures to impose on participants.
