WALKER — A dispute over a girl escalated Wednesday night, with one group of teen boys shooting at another group when they met up with a plan to fight, according to the mother of two of the victims.
No one was injured in the encounter, which happened near John’s Grocery and Hardware at Walker North and Cane Market roads on Wednesday night.
Cindell Wilson, the mother of two of the boys, told UWK that was just luck.
“The bullet missed my child’s head by like two inches,” Wilson said.
The boys all know each other and are close to the same age. An ongoing dispute between the alleged gunman and both Wilson’s 14-year-old son and his close friend had already resulted in a fistfight, she said.
It stemmed from the alleged gunman being upset that Wilson’s 14-year-old and his friend were friendly with his girlfriend, she said.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating and said the two groups of boys had an argument earlier in the day and they agreed to meet around 9 p.m. “to fight it out.”
“Two juveniles armed themselves ahead of this meet up. Shots were fired,” LPSO said. “Thankfully, no one was injured.”
Wilson said her son’s friend stumbled while trying to run away, which protected him from being in the path of one of the bullets.
“It scared the (expletive) out of me,” she said, explaining that her 16-year-old son drove her 14-year-old son to meet their friend and make sure he was safe.
“We almost lost three of our kids,” she said, referring to her own sons and their friend.
Three boys have been arrested and were taken to the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center, the sheriff’s office said.
