BATON ROUGE — A 17-year-old girl was reunited with her mother after a frantic overnight call reporting she had been kidnapped, with the driver leading police on a pursuit into St. Francisville. The mother contacted 911 while tracking her daughter’s location and relaying updates to Baton Rouge Police officers, according to sources.
Just before 4 a.m. on July 15, officers were reportedly told that the teen was in a 2015 Honda Accord and that the driver refused to let her out. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver, now identified as 24-year-old Cade Johnson, allegedly led them on a nearly 40-minute pursuit.
Johnson is accused of running multiple red lights and stop signs while reaching speeds close to 100 mph. The chase continued into West Feliciana Parish, where additional law enforcement joined the pursuit.
Sources tell UWK that police deployed spike strips twice before the Honda finally came to a stop in the 11000 block of U.S. 61 in St. Francisville.
The 17-year-old was safely reunited with her mother. She reportedly told officers that she had a prior relationship with Johnson and was also friends with one of his siblings. Sources say that she told police that an argument broke out in the vehicle and, despite repeatedly asking Johnson to let her out, he refused. She also alleged that Johnson drove at dangerously high speeds to prevent her from escaping.
Johnson was arrested and officers discovered he had a suspended driver’s license and no insurance on the vehicle.
He now faces charges of simple kidnapping, flight from an officer, driving with a suspended license, resisting an officer, no insurance, and false imprisonment. Two other individuals were also detained. Their names and charges have not yet been released.
