NEW ROADS —- The New Roads Police Dept. has arrested a fourth young man in connection to a deadly shooting in May 2024. It comes after three others were arrested in late June.
New Roads Police Chief Cedric Epps said the shooting happened around 3 a.m. on May 19, in the city. The shots were fired on Carver St. near Wilkins Ave.
A 16-year-old teenager died in the shooting. He was identified as Jonathan Johnson, Jr.
ZayQuin Joseph, 19, of Marksville was arrested on July 2nd and charged with one count of second degree murder.
On June 24, Chief Epps announced that officers arrested three people in connection to the shooting: Michael Anderson, 21, of Baker, Brandon Bell, 22, of Ventress and Dylan Bell, 19, of Ventress. All three are charged with second-degree murder.
After the deadly shooting, officials said there was a secondary shooting that happened in Pointe Coupee Parish the same day, May 19. It allegedly involved someone in the group who shot the teenager in New Roads. No one was injured in that shooting.
