Teenager killed in New Roads shooting early Sunday morning

NEW ROADS —- The New Roads Police Dept. and Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office are working a joint investigation into a teen’s killing and another shooting.

New Roads Police Chief Cedric Epps tells UWK the shooting happened around 3 a.m. in the city. The shots were fired on Carver St. near Wilkins Ave.

A teenager died in the shooting. The name of the deceased has not been released at this time.

After the deadly shooting, officials say there was a secondary shooting that happened in Pointe Coupee Parish. It allegedly involved someone in the group who shot the teenager in New Roads. No one was injured in that shooting.

Both shootings remain under investigation with officials trying to piece them together. Anyone with information is asked to call the New Roads Police Dept. at 225-694-3737 or Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP.
