BATON ROUGE — The community continues to come together to help the family of a Baton Rouge Police Officer intentionally hit on June 16 while working on-duty as a motorcycle cop. A fundraiser is in the works nearly two months after Sgt. Caleb Eisworth was critically injured in an “intentional, targeted hit” to benefit his family.
It was June 16 around 11 a.m. when Sgt. Eisworth was on his way to a work-related escort assignment on his motorcycle and was headed north on Joor Rd. near the Prescott intersection. That’s when East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office says Gad Black allegedly followed the officer for a short distance before “striking him with his truck and fleeing the area.”
Sgt. Eisworth was transported in very serious condition via ambulance, escorted by multiple police officers. He did undergo surgery.
Sgt. Eisworth did regain consciousness following the June crash, but never fully recovered from the injuries despite weeks of surgeries and small signs of progress.
Unfortunately, on Aug. 10, Baton Rouge Police and Eisworth’s family shared that “his body was unable to continue fighting” and he had passed.
The community has come together several times to provide financial support for Sgt. Eisworth, his wife and daughter.
The newest opportunity is a raffle put on by the Louisiana Office Solutions Co. that will go to help Caleb’s wife Darla Eisworth, a long-time employee of the company and valued member of the accounting team.
Four office chairs are available, all valued at more than $300 (with the most expensive around $1,000).
Tickets are $10 each, and the drawing will take place on Oct. 1st. Tickets must be purchased before that time and can be purchased online here.
Winners will be notified after the drawing.

Previous events have included a gun raffle by LEW’s Firearms; multiple jambalaya benefits; a car show, silent auction, outdoor island raffle, and DJ took place at Goodwood Hardware & Outdoors and Cafe Americain; a car show and “Anything Goes” Black Iron Pot Cook-Off by Sheri’s Daiquiris; restaurant give-back days, and more.
The Caleb Strong benefit took place at Locals Bar and Kitchen in Central on July 19th from 11 a.m. – 2 a.m. All proceeds will go to the Eisworth family, and the event raised over $18,000.
