PORT ALLEN — The City of Port Allen is mourning the sudden loss of one of its most passionate and outspoken community advocates. Clerice Lacy, a former councilwoman and lifelong champion for the people, died unexpectedly this week, leaving behind a legacy of service, love, and tireless devotion to the city she called home.
Though her cause of death has not been made public, the impact of her absence is already being felt deeply by those who knew her best.
“She was my aunt. She was my biological mother’s sister,” said Angel Veal, who Clerice raised since birth. “But that’s the only mother I’ve ever known.”
Speaking from her heart, Veal remembered her mother not just as a leader in the community but as her closest friend and fiercest protector.
“She was outspoken, loving, always giving back,” Veal said. “It didn’t matter if you were a friend, a stranger, or a student at a local school—she would help you. She’d give you the clothes off her back.”

Lacy was best known for organizing the city’s cherished events, like the Fall Fest, Stop the Violence walk, and back-to-school drives that provided haircuts, school supplies, and a fresh start for hundreds of local children. Her upcoming back-to-school event—planned for mid-August—will still go on, her family says, as a testament to her love for the youth in Port Allen.
“She always put the community first,” Veal added. “And she always put God first.”
Elliot Dogan, a close friend and fellow activist, reflected on Lacy’s deep-rooted work in justice and reform.
“A lot of Clerice’s advocacy came through her work with the Justice for Fatrell organization,” he said, referencing efforts to bring accountability in cases of police violence. “She helped organize the ‘Stop the Violence’ event every year. She was bold. She educated herself before making any decisions as a councilwoman. Her heart was in the right place.”
Her upcoming back-to-school event—planned for mid-August—will still go on, her family confirms, as a tribute to the passion and care she poured into every child she served.
Her very last post on social media reflected that dedication: “One month before the Annual Back To School Giveaway. I’m super excited. 20 Free haircuts and 20 Free braids/dreads. Registration link coming soon.” Even in her final public words, Clerice Lacy was thinking of the kids.
Lacy also played a key role in organizing Port Allen’s annual Juneteenth celebration, working behind the scenes to bring people together in the spirit of history, unity, and healing.
“She strived for community, inclusion, and safety,” Dogan added. “It’s a strong loss for all of us.”

Beyond her civic leadership, Lacy was a businesswoman, a mentor, a woman of faith, and a relentless advocate for those whose voices often went unheard.
“She was the kind of person who would show up for anyone,” said Dogan.
As the community reels from the unexpected loss, many say they will remember Lacy not just for what she did, but how she made them feel—seen, heard, and loved.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. Community members are encouraged to share memories, photos, and messages as plans are made to honor Clerice Lacy’s extraordinary life and legacy.
