PLAQUEMINE, La: The Plaquemine Police Dept. is investigating the first homicide of 2022.
Mario Walker, 29, of Plaquemine was shot around 5:45pm on Tuesday, July 26th at the intersection of W W Harleaux & Calvin streets.
Walker was airmed to a hospital but died after he was shot in the back of his head.
Plaquemine Police Chief Kenny Payne said Walker was walking on the sidewalk when a vehicle with three people pulled up next to him. Chief Payne said all three people jumped out of the car & one person, Jontrell Wilson, 28, allegedly hit Walker with a pistol.
Walker fell to the ground but then got up and tried to run away. That’s when Chief Payne said Jaymetrice Provo, 30, allegedly shot Walker in the back of the head once.
The three people fled in a black Mercedes with Jaylon Smith, 26, allegedly driving.
Meanwhile, later in the night, an Alabama State Trooper noticed a vehicle with no license plate and stopped them. When the trooper pulled them over, he realized they were wanted out of Louisiana.
All three were arrested in Alabama and now await extradition. All three are from Plaquemine.
Once they’re brought back to Plaquemine, the three are looking at multiple charges.
Provo will be charged with second degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Wilson will be charged with principals to second degree murder & possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Smith is facing accessories after the fact to second degree murder.
