BATON ROUGE — Three juvenile siblings were charged with unauthorized entry after BREC reported an incident of multiple children jumping a fence to get into an unauthorized area on Wednesday. They were reportedly armed with guns, officials said.
The incident occurred on Aug. 20, when four children, ranging in age from 7 to 12 years old, jumped a fence at the BREC Howell Community Park pool. The juveniles appeared to be armed with two handguns, Baton Rouge Police reported.
Initially, Baton Rouge Police officers responded and an investigation was then handled by the Baton Rouge Police Burglary detectives. Detectives reviewed video of the incident and were able to identify the juveniles involved.
On Aug. 21, detectives arrested three of the juveniles (ages 10, 11, and 12). The other juvenile seen in the video is only 7-years-old. Detectives also spoke with the siblings’ parent and learned that the guns seen in the video were actually BB guns the father had purchased, according to a release.
According to officials, the juveniles painted the orange tips of the BB guns black to “make them appear real.” Detectives confirmed the information about the weapons.
The three juveniles were charged with unauthorized entry of a business and released to their parent, pending their court date. Their names are not being released due to their ages.
